Song Lyrics

The reason I chose this song by Gotye ft Kimbra called “Someone I used to know” is because it has literary devices and poetry. This song can take upon a double meaning. The song is about a relationship of friends with benefits and also an experince of a ex girlfriend. It’s about a girl that cared for the guy, but he didn’t really want her and at the same time he did. The girl cuts him off and the guy tells her it didn’t have to be like that. This can relate and reflect to any person and have the same consequences. This has metaphor, Similes, and symbolism. An example of symbolism is “Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over, but had me believing it was always something that I'd done”. Similes “I don't even need your love, but you treat me like a stranger, Make it like it never happened and that we were nothing (oh)”.

Someone I Used To Know
Now and then I think of when we were together
Like when you said you felt so happy you could die
Told myself that you were right for me
But felt so lonely in your company
But that was love and it's an ache I still remember

You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness
Like resignation to the end
Always the end
So when we found that we could not make sense
Well you said that we would still be friends
But I'll admit that I was glad it was over

But you didn't have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened
And that we were nothing
And I don't even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger
And that feels so rough
And you didn't have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records
And then change your number
I guess that I don't need that though
Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Now you're just somebody that I used to know

Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over
But had me believing it was always something that I'd done
And I don't wanna live that way
Reading into every word you say
You said that you could let it go
And I wouldn't catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know...

But you didn't have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened
And that we were nothing
And I don't even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger
And that feels so rough
And you didn't have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records
And then change your number
I guess that I don't need that though
Now you're just somebody that I used to know

I used to know
That I used to know

Somebody...

Ode to an Onion

I choose this poem because I expected to read a funny story, but then when i read it I read the opposite of what I thought. I liked this poem because it talked of the process in which an onion develops and each step has a meaning that can be related to a person.

ROBERT FROST

Stars
    HOW countlessly they congregate
    O'er our tumultuous snow,
Which flows in shapes as tall as trees
    When wintry winds do blow!—
As if with keenness for our fate,
    Our faltering few steps on
To white rest, and a place of rest
    Invisible at dawn,—
And yet with neither love nor hate,
    Those stars like some snow-white
    Minerva's snow-white marble eyes
    Without the gift of sight.

I choose the poem Stars from A Boy’s Will, by Robert Frost because the title Stars caught my attention and it reminded me of when I see the stars in the sky at night. Then when I read It was difficult to understand it but I still choose it.
Frost’s used the literary device Simile in these two lines:
"Those stars like some snow-white" - comparing the snow-white with the bright white stars.
"Which flows in shapes as tall as trees"- i think it means the snow falls from the sky n flows on air n into the top of the tall trees.
